Lisa is a graduate of Grand Valley State University with a bachelor’s degree in Sociology. Lisa co-founded Diabetes Will’s Way to help children with type 1 diabetes have access to technology so that they can thrive with their disease, not just survive. An experienced volunteer who has partnered with hospitals, churches and schools to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars in donations, Lisa now seeks to use her skills to help the type 1 diabetes community. Under her 10 year tenure as Executive Director, Diabetes Will’s Way grew exponentially. From initially awarding just 4 grants in 2014 Diabetes Will’s Way has now awarded over 400 grants and given away more than $385,000. Lisa has steadfastly kept to her vision of helping families bridge the gap between what insurance will pay for and what is medically necessary for a child to thrive with type 1 diabetes. Now that Will has assumed the Executive Director position, Lisa will focus on her passion, helping families as the Director of Case Management. Lisa has been interviewed by Stacey Simms on her Diabetes Connections podcast and was awarded a scholarship by the Diabetes Hands Foundation to attend a MasterLab in advocacy. In November of 2019, Lisa was recognized as a patient voices winner by DiabetesMine and won a scholarship to their Innovation Summit and #DData Exchange in San Francisco. Additionally, Lisa has completed the American Diabetes Associations advanced school advocacy training.. Lisa will continue her work with Diabetes Will’s Way until a cure is found.
