Spring is here and garage sales are popping up around every corner. The residents in Delaware Commons, located on Hazel Dell Road in Carmel, friends and family of Will Oberndorfer and members of Will’s Way organized a neighborhood garage sale to benefit children suffering from type 1 diabetes.
All proceeds will go to the newly-launched charity to add to its goal to raise more than $25,000 in 2014 to help families who are caring for their child or children with type 1 diabetes. Despite some pretty inclement weather, a dedicated team of volunteers bargained with the best and moved large quantities of donated items and raised $1,000 for type 1 diabetes grants.
While many volunteers came out for the event, a few were there because of their strong connection to Will Oberndorfer, co-founder of Will’s Way and a type 1 diabetic.
Kristen is a freshman at Ball State University studying nursing. Eventually, she will learn the details of how type 1 diabetes affects and damages a body because her career will depend on it. But, for now, she only knows it “has to do with insulin in your body.”
Kristin is not unlike many young adults her age. Unfortunately for approximately 220,000 youth under the age of 20, they have to know the affects, how to manage it and how to live with it.
Will’s Way is focused on educating type 1 diabetics’ friends and family, the community and school professionals so they will know how to encourage and care for their loved ones suffering from this horrible disease.

Thank you to all who donated, shopped and worked the sale…we couldn’t have done it without you!
